Deadline Nears for Public and Private Agencies to Apply for Reimbursement of Emergency Expenses Provided to Hurricane Katrina Victims

The Charles County Department of Emergency Services wishes to remind County, municipal, State, and tribal government agencies, as well as private, non-profit agencies and faith-based organizations that the recent Presidential Emergency Declaration for the State of Maryland allows them to recoup 100 percent of their costs associated with providing emergency assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims who have come to Charles County. The assistance includes items such as sheltering, food, and medical care.

Please contact the Department of Emergency Services at 301-609-3401 or 301-609-3429 by November 5 for the forms and information on the process and documentation required for reimbursement of eligible expenses.

Any municipal, County, State, or tribal government agencies, or non-profit agencies and community and faith-based organizations that have provided services to Katrina victims in the County and have not reported their data to the County's clearinghouse at the Department of Social Services (DSS), should call the DSS Hurricane Katrina hotline number 301-392-6888. If you get a voice mail message, your call will be returned within 24 hours or on the next business day.

The County is tracking Katrina victims who have come to the County in order to achieve an unduplicated count and to assure that they are receiving the services they need or will require in the future.
