Charles County Sheriff's Office Apprehends Katrina Scammers

The Charles County Sheriff's Office has arrested Kelvin Ruail Dunn, 31, and Zenia Ann Peebles-Dunn, 30, the La Plata couple who posed as victims of Hurricane Katrina to receive aid from civic organizations.

Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the Robert J. Fuller Transitional Home at 3740 Rockefeller Court in Waldorf Oct. 27 about 11:15 p.m. after a citizen who saw a news report about the Dunns' scam called to say the couple were at the shelter. Before officers arrived, Zenia Dunn left but officers apprehended Kelvin Dunn at the shelter. He was transported to the Charles County Detention Center, where a district court commissioner released him on personal recognizance.

Zenia Dunn turned herself in at the Charles County Sheriff's Office La Plata District Station at 11:56 a.m. Oct. 27. She is awaiting an appearance before the district court commissioner.

The Dunns are both charged with two counts of theft more than $500, attempted theft more than $500 and theft scheme more than $500.
