The Board of Commissioners for St. Mary's County is pleased to announce that Mr. Timothy K. Cameron has been appointed as Director of Public Safety, effective November 1, 2005.
Mr. Cameron brings to the position more than twenty-five years of diverse public safety experience in St. Mary's County primarily through his employment with the St. Mary's County Office of the Sheriff since 1980. During his tenure in the Office of the Sheriff, Mr. Cameron has held positions as Commander, Supervisor, Emergency Services Team (SWAT) Member, Dive Rescue Team Member, Crime Prevention Leader, Narcotics Detective, and Patrolman.
In these roles, Mr. Cameron has gained extensive knowledge in emergency management, training, planning, hazardous materials and emergency communications; and has proven ability to manage operational and administrative duties, supervise personnel, develop and implement emergency action plans and coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies. Mr. Cameron is also a Certified Instructor by the Maryland Police & Correctional Training Commission and holds many other instructor certifications in the field of Public Safety.

"His extensive knowledge and experience will continue to be an asset for our community in his new role, and we look forward to his leadership in the organization and management of services in the Department of Public Safety."
Mr. Cameron has completed extensive course work and training in Law Enforcement and Public Safety at various institutions and agencies around the Country. He holds a certificate of completion in the Criminal Justice Program from the College of Southern Maryland and is completing course work at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Management.
Mr. Cameron is highly respected in the community as evidenced by the myriad of letters of commendation and appreciation he has received since his employment with the St. Mary's County Office of the Sheriff began in 1980. He has been recognized with awards from the St. Mary's County Office of the Sheriff, State's Attorney for St. Mary's County, Fraternal Order of Police, Maryland Committee for Safety Belt Use, and the District Attorney for San Diego, California.
