Three cadets in the St. Mary's Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) received promotions and awards in a ceremony held during a recent squadron meeting.
Cadet Haley Blevins was promoted to cadet lieutenant colonel; Cadet David Trick was promoted to cadet first lieutenant, and Cadet Matthew Herton was presented with the Gen. Billy Mitchell award and promoted to cadet second lieutenant.
Blevins is a senior at Great Mills High School in Lexington Park, Md. She has attended the Region Cadet Leadership School, participated in the International Cadet Exchange program, attended the National Military Music Academy, and cadet encampment. She was awarded the Commander's Commendation in 2000 and is a former squadron cadet commander. She joined CAP in March 2000.
Trick is a freshman at Leonardtown High School in Leonardtown, Md. He has served on the Cadet Advisory Council, is a member of the Maryland Wing drill team, and has attended cadet encampment. He joined CAP in June 2002.
Herton is a freshman at Patuxent High School in Lusby, Md. He is a member of the Maryland Wing drill team, is the squadron color guard commander, and has attended cadet encampment. He joined CAP in April 2003.
St. Mary's Composite Squadron meets Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Capt. Walter Francis Duke Regional Airport and is commanded by 1st Lt. Donald W. Cone Jr.
