Waldorf Woman in Critical Condition Following Crash With Police Officer


On Oct. 19 at 8:49 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's Corporal Robert Kuhnow was on-duty in his police cruiser traveling north on Leonardtown Road in Hughesville. As he approached Gallant Green Road, a 2000 Dodge Intrepid began crossing northbound Leonardtown Road from Gallant Green Road and the vehicles collided in the intersection. The driver of the Dodge, Julie Harris Whiston, 29, of Waldorf, sustained critical injuries and was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where her injuries are considered to be life-threatening. Cpl. Kuhnow was flown by a United States Park Police helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Center as a precaution. He is said to be in good condition. Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the crash.
