St. Mary's County DUI Report for Week of October 3, 2005


St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Senior Deputy First Class Kevin Somerville was patrolling in the area of Hollywood, when he observed a vehicle cross over the edge line and the yellow median line. SDFC Somerville conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Suspect Michael James Spears 22 years of age from California, Md. SDFC Somerville detected an odor of alcohol emitting from the Suspect. Suspect Spears was administered standardized field sobriety tests which he failed. Suspect Spears was arrested, transported to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office where he was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving Under the Influence Per Se. Suspect Spears is currently awaiting a Preliminary Inquiry Hearing.

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Deputy Milton Pesante was patrolling in the area of Budds Creek Road in Mechanicsville when he observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the road with the driver's side door open and its parking lights on. Deputy Pesante identified the driver of the vehicle as Lee Philip Desmarais, the Suspect, age 18 years of La Plata. Suspect Desmarais was found to be sleeping and unresponsive to loud commands given by Deputy Pesante. An odor of alcoholic beverage was detected by Deputy Pesante during conversation with Suspect Desmarais. Suspect Desmarais was administered standardized field sobriety tests which he failed. Suspect Desmarais was transported to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were he was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving Under the Influence Per Se. Suspect Desmarais is currently awaiting a Preliminary Inquiry Hearing.

Deputy Pesante conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as James Darryl Douglas, the Suspect, age 42 years of Mechanicsville. An odor of alcoholic beverage was detected by Deputy Pesante during conversation with Suspect Douglas. Suspect Douglas was administered standardized field sobriety tests which he failed. Suspect Douglas was transported to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office where he was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving Under the Influence Per Se. Suspect Douglas is currently awaiting a Preliminary Inquiry Hearing.
