On October 5th, 2005 at approximately 7:32 pm Law Enforcement Officers responded to a reported shooting on the roadside in Lexington Park. A 19 year old victim, identified as Antonio Wendell Chase, was located and Deputies determined he had been shot once - in his upper body. The victim was transported to St. Mary's Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Detectives from the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) responded and continued the investigation.
A suspect had been located by Deputies - 19 year old Gregory Troy Taylor. Based on physical evidence, witness accounts and other evidence recovered, Suspect Taylor was arrested and charged. The shooting stemmed from an earlier incident between the victim and suspect. Suspect Taylor was transported to the Detention Center and charged with (1) count of 1st Degree Assault; (1) count of 2nd Degree Assault; and (1) count of Use of a Handgun in Commission of a Felony. Suspect Taylor is currently being held at the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending his appearance before the District Court Judge. Additional charges are pending a review with the State’s Attorney and presentation to the St. Mary’s County Grand Jury.
