Zylak Statement on Re-Election Email

Letter to Editor:

I recently sent a press release, via e-mail, to the media announcing my filing for Re-election to the Office of Sheriff for St. Mary’s County. It was brought to my attention that sending the e-mail from my office was a violation of the Maryland Ethics Commission law pertaining to “Political Activity”. I believed that as the incumbent Sheriff it would be proper to send the “press release” via my work e-mail. I was mistaken and for that I apologize.

I can assure the citizens of St. Mary’s County that I have never abused the authority of my Office and I have always had the best interest of the county and the Sheriff’s Office first and foremost. I have been in contact with the State Ethics Commission to clarify several issues and this will not happen again.

Sincerely,
David D. Zylak
Sheriff
St. Mary’s County, Maryland
