The Charles County Commissioners today announced the appointment of Roy E. Hancock, current Director of the Charles County Department of Planning and Growth Management, as the interim County Administrator.
Mr. Hancock's term will begin on October 1, 2005. He will work with County Administrator Eugene T. Lauer to provide an orderly transition into his new position before Mr. Lauer's retirement on October 31.
Mr. Hancock began his more than 30-year career with Charles County in 1973 as Assistant County Engineer in the Office of the County Engineer. >From 1977-79, he was the Chief of Facilities for the Department of Public Works, Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works from 1979-80, Director of Public Works from 1980-90, and Director of the Department of Planning and Growth Management from 1990-present.
Melvin C. Beall, Jr., P.E., current Chief of Development and Capital Services in the Department of Planning and Growth Management, where he has served since 1993, will serve as acting Director of Planning and Growth Management.
The County Commissioners will begin recruiting immediately within the Mid-Atlantic region for a new County Administrator. An outside recruiter is being secured for the search.
Mr. Hancock, a lifelong resident of Charles County, is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He and his wife, Shirley, of 32 years, have two children, a daughter, Jennifer, and son, Ryan, and son-in-law William Mayhew.
