Robert Barret Goes Two Rounds with Deputies

On September 15, 2005, Sheriff's Deputies responded to a residence in Great Mills for a reported domestic assault. Dfc. Todd Fleenor was speaking to Robert Barret Jr., age, 44 of Lexington Park, MD and Dep. Charles Dodson was talking with victim Nancy Lorraine. Robert Barret attempted to walk away while the deputies were investigating the incident. Dfc. Kevin Roberts approached Robert Barret. Barret swung his elbow toward Dfc. Roberts as if to strike him. Dfc. Roberts and Dfc. Fleenor arrested Barret for the assault on the deputy.

The investigation on the original complaint was completed and Barret was transported to St. Mary's Hospital for treatment for his injuries. Deputies First Class David Yingling and Randall Wood were at St. Mary's Hospital to serve a warrant on another subject at the hospital. That subject happened to be in the emergency room bed next to Barret's bed. Barret made an attempt to break free from the handcuffs which almost caused the hospital bed to flip over. Deputies First Class Yingling and Wood attempted to stop Barret from turning over the bed and Barret kicked both of the deputies in their legs and torso. Barret was again restrained and taken to St. Mary's County Detention Center. He is held at the Detention Center pending arraignment before a District Court Commissioner.
