Truck Strikes Man in Roadway; Pedestrian was Under the Influence


On 09-16-2005 at 8:21 p.m., a 1998 Ford F150 traveling west bound on Route 246 struck a pedestrian who failed to yield the right of way when crossing the roadway. The pedestrian was William F. Scriber, age 55, of Morganza, Maryland. The truck was driven by Sylvester W. Ball, age 52, of Lexington Park.

Mr. Scriber was critically injured in the accident. He was flown to Prince Georges Trauma Center by State Police helicopter Trooper 7. Mr. Ball was not injured. No charges have been filed against either party. Alcohol is believed to be a factor on the part of the pedestrian Mr. Scriber. It does not appear that the truck was speeding.

UPDATE: The pedestrian, William F. Scriber, was pronounced deceased at 1217 hours on 09-17-05 at Prince Georges Trauma Center. The investigation is currently ongoing.
