The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Maryland Unit 82 helped make the Charles County Sheriff's Office's National Night Out 2005 celebration successful with a $1,000 donation to support the event. Charles County Sheriff Frederick E. Davis presented Anna Mae Sackie, president of the auxiliary, with a certificate of appreciation for the donation Aug. 17.

This year, 128 neighborhoods participated in National Night Out, an increase from 124 neighborhoods last year. Business participation also increased, from 55 compared to 43 last year.

"I am very grateful to the American Legion Auxiliary for supporting one of the largest single crime prevention events in Charles County each year," said Sheriff Davis. "National Night Out gives our community the opportunity to celebrate our success in crime prevention in our community and strengthen our resolve to continue our efforts."

This year marked the largest National Night Out celebration in Charles County history. Lt. Governor Michael Steele joined the festivities along with scores of other law enforcement officers and government officials.
