Calvert Steps up Traffic Enforcement for “First Day Of School”

On August 23rd, 2005, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police participated in the “First Day Of School” Initiative.

Deputies and Troopers were stationed at each of Calvert County’s 22 schools to monitor traffic and welcome students back to school.

Along with the “First Day Of School” initiative members of the Special Operations Team and the Traffic Safety Unit of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office coordinated an effort to slow traffic on Route 2/4. Over 90 citations or warnings were issued this morning. Sheriff Mike Evans said “This type of initiative and speed enforcement will continue throughout the year in order to keep the children and adults of Calvert County safe, not just on the first day of school but everyday”.
