Two La Plata Twenty-Somethings Arrested for Cocaine

On Aug. 20 at 4:53 a.m., Officer A. St. Germain conducted a traffic stop on a red Toyota Camry on Hawthorne Road near Mount Holly Place in Indian Head because it had been involved in what appeared to be a drug transaction in a parking lot in the 5100 block of Indian Head Highway. Investigation revealed the driver and passenger were in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana. Officers arrested Derek Steffon Matthews, 29, and Ta Ronda Renee Cole, 23, both of La Plata, and charged them with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. They are being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the District Court Commissioner.
