Fatal Car Crash in Port Republic


On August 19th, 2005 at 4:47 pm, members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Md. Rt 4 and Parker’s Creek Road, Port Republic, Md. for a reported Auto collision.

A preliminary investigation of the collision revealed the driver of a Dodge Neon was attempting to make a left hand turn from southbound Md. Rt 2/4 onto eastbound Parker’s Creek Road. The driver of the Neon failed to yield the right of way to an Infinity I30 that was northbound.

The driver of the Neon was identified as Fleta R. Gonzales, 82 years old of Marion, Michigan. She was transported to Baltimore Shock Trauma via Trooper two. She was pronounced dead at Shock Trauma.

The driver of the Infinity and her passenger, whose names are not being released because they are still being considered witnesses, where taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit.
