Children Run in to Path of Vehicle; One in Critical

On August 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Lauren Dye, 18 of California, MD was operating a 2001 Ford Explorer with passengers Nancy Dye and Elizabeth Davidson, traveling westbound on Budds Creek Rd. Just west of Chaptico Rd, two juvenile males ages 14 and 17 ran across the road from a Ford van with a trailer parked on the westbound shoulder of Budds Creek Rd. Ms. Dye saw the two boys and slowed down. Just as Ms. Dye's vehicle was passing the Ford van, the boy's 11 year old sister ran into the roadway and was struck by Ms. Dye's vehicle. The juvenile was transported to Children's Hospital in critical condition. Ms. Dye and both passengers were transported to St. Mary's Hospital where they were treated and released. The investigation by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office is continuing.
