The following officers are recognized as "Officers of the Quarter" and reflect great credit upon themselves and in keeping with the highest traditions of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office:
Deputy Sheriff of the Second Quarter of 2005: Detective First Class Clayton O. Safford is recognized as the Deputy of the Quarter. Since September, 2001, DFC Safford has been assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. DFC Safford has developed himself as a premiere detective and has been labeled by his co-workers as a "Go to Guy." DFC Safford is well respected by all facets of law enforcement and the community. He takes pride in his assignments and the agency and his work ethic is beyond compare. DFC Safford is a valuable asset to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
Correctional Officer of the Second Quarter of 2005: Senior Correctional First Class John T. Ucekay is recognized as Correctional Officer of the Quarter. SCFC Ucekay has been assigned to the Corrections Division - Community Supervision Unit (CSU) since May of 1997. The unit is responsible for the Work Release, Work Incentive and Home Detention Programs. In addition to his duties in CSU, SCFC Ucekay is a member of the Emergency Response Team and is always willing to assist his fellow officers by quickly responding to disturbances within the facility. SCFC Ucekay's knowledge, experience and communication skills have earned him the respect of his fellow officers and the inmates and detainees of the adult detention center.
