Bethesda, MD (August 12, 2005) - On Saturday, August 27th SportsCenter will broadcast live from Calvert County, Maryland as a part of their 50 States in 50 Days promotion. ESPNs 50 States in 50 Days summer tour has been traversing the nation since mid-July and will make its Maryland appearance at the 139th Calvert County Jousting Tournament in Port Republic.
Jousting, a sport in which riders must capture three hanging rings through a lance while riding full gallop on a horse, has been the official State Sport of Maryland since 1962. The oldest jousting tournament in existence, the Calvert County Jousting Tournament is held the last Saturday of every August.
The ESPN SportsCenter segment will originate from a mobile set with an anchor and a live audience and will feature Marylands contribution to the national jousting scene through event action, historical notes, and factoids.
