Ray Sylvester Mason Arrested for Stabbing Brother


On August 6th, 2005 members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office responded to St. Mary's Hospital for the report of a stabbing victim, identified as 40 year old Steven Wendell Mason of Lexington Park, MD. Examination of the victim revealed he had been stabbed twice in his upper torso and was listed in Critical Condition.

Detectives from the St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) further investigated the case and determined the stabbing occurred in the Missouri Avenue area of Lexington Park, St. Mary's County, Maryland on August 6th, 2005 at around 10:00 pm. A suspect was identified by detectives as the victim's brother, identified as 37 year old Ray Sylvester Mason of Valley Lee, MD. A search for the suspect yielded negative results into the early hours of August 7th and at approximately 11:30 am the suspect contacted the Sheriff's Office from a residence in the Missouri Avenue area and DFC Patrick Handy from the Road Patrol Division located and transported him to headquarters where he was turned over to detectives.

The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with one (1) count of 1st Degree Assault and one (1) count of 2nd Degree Assault. He is currently being held at the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending his appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
