Suspects Sought in Indian Head Shooting


On August 5 at 2 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to the rear of a building in the 4600 block of Indian Head Highway in Indian Head for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a 25-year-old Indian Head man with a gunshot wound to his back. The victim was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Baltimore Shock Trauma. Detectives responded to the scene and their investigation revealed three suspects confronted the victim, shot him and fled on foot. Witnesses identified one of the individuals alleged to have been involved in the incident as Charles McCleland Shorter, 21, of Indian Head. Shorter was located shortly thereafter at a residence in Indian Head and charged with attempted murder. Detectives identified Joseph Timothy Thompson, 23, of no fixed address as another individual involved in the incident. Thompson has not been located but detectives have obtained a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder. The third suspect has been tentatively identified as a 17-year-old La Plata boy.
