On July 22 at 11:51 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to an intrusion alarm at the Post Office at 100 Centennial Street in La Plata. Upon arrival, officers discovered suspect(s) forced entry into the locked partition door to the retail counter. Once inside the locked area, the suspect(s) stole several stamp books and other postal supplies. A K9 team responded and conducted a track that ended near the 6700 block of Crain Highway in La Plata. No suspect(s) were located.
At 12:20 a.m., while officers were still investigating the La Plata Post Office burglary, other officers responded to an intrusion alarm at the Post Office at 150 Post Office Road in Waldorf. The officers discovered suspect(s) forced entry into the locked area of this Post Office and stole postal supplies. Another K9 team responded but they did not locate any suspects.
A United States postal inspector responded to both post offices for an investigation. Anyone with information about this investigation or who knows of discounted stamps being sold is asked to contact the US Postal Inspection Service at 202-636-2220 or the Charles County Sheriff's Office at 301-932-7777. The US Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information about the burglaries or about the sale of discounted stamps.
