Washington, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD) received a perfect rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA) for the first and second sessions of the 108th Congress. The NHLA compiled the legislative scorecard to inform Hispanics about Senators and Members of Congress's record on issues of importance to Hispanic communities. Rep. Hoyer's 100 percent score reflects his ongoing commitment to securing basic civil rights and providing a better quality of life for all Hispanics.
"I am honored to have received a 100 percent rating from the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and am proud of my record of fighting for the values and priorities of Hispanic families," said Hoyer.
"The nation's Hispanic population is booming and swelled by 58 percent in the past decade, making it the fastest growing minority group," Hoyer added. "And, Latinos are leading a record 1.2 million number of small businesses with annual revenues of nearly $200 billion. We must ensure that their voice is heard and represented at all levels of government and I am grateful to NHLA for their efforts and look forward to continuing our work together."
The NHLA scorecard is based on votes on a diverse set of issues that have a direct impact on Hispanics and their families and that help the Hispanic community move ahead on issues ranging from education, health care, economic mobility, workforce and civil rights.
Founded in 1991, the NHLA is a non-partisan coalition of national public policy and civil rights organizations and leaders from across the United States, whose mission is to provide the Hispanic community with greater visibility and a clearer stronger voice in our nation's affairs.
