Man Out of Control; Gets Tasered by Cops

On 07/17/05 at approximately 2000 hours, the St. Mary's County Emergency Operations Center was contacted by Timothy Sanders, who was angry about a domestic issue. Deputies from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Troopers from the Leonardtown Barrack responded to Sanders residence. Upon their arrival, officers noticed Sanders in a vehicle with the interior light illuminated. When Sanders saw the officers, he raised a rifle and pointed it in the direction of the officers who were still in their patrol cars.

Suspect Sanders retreated into his residence. Officers secured a perimeter around Sander’s residence, and telephone negotiations were conducted. Sanders agreed to come outside, but once out refused to listen to the commands of officers. Suspect Sanders then physically assaulted two officers.

A Sheriff's Office K-9 was released to subdue Suspect Sanders, who then assaulted the K-9. A Taser was utilized which brought Sanders under control. The investigation was assumed by BCI.

Sanders was taken to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, and one count of resisting arrest. Investigation continues by BCI.
