Mechanicsville Man Arrested for Marijuana Possession

St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Deputy Angela Muller was patrolling in the area of Castaway Circle in Lexington Park when she observed a vehicle with its passenger door open and no driver. Deputy Muller observed furtive actions on the part of the front seat passenger when she illuminated the vehicle. Deputy Muller made contact with the passenger and identified him as Alan Richard Courtney, Jr. of Mechanicsville. Suspect Courtney exited the vehicle and Deputy Muller detected the odor of burning marijuana coming from within the vehicle. Deputy Muller observed in plain view on the ground near the driver's side door a small baggie containing suspected marijuana and a moist blunt also containing marijuana. Suspect Courtney was arrested, transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia. Suspect is currently awaiting a court date in the District Court.
