Police Car Crashes in Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle


On June 28th, 2005 at 2:10 am, The Calvert Control Center was notified of a police pursuit by the Prince George’s County Police Department. They advised that Metropolitan Police and Prince George’s County Police were chasing a stolen vehicle wanted for an assault on a Metropolitan Police Officer. The chase was headed southbound on Maryland Route 4 approaching Calvert County.

Members of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police joined the pursuit and were able to stop the vehicle on Md. Rt. 4 in the area of Skinners Turn Rd., Owings, Md. A felony stop was conducted on the vehicle and all three occupants were removed without incident.

The driver, Saeve E. Evans, 19 years old of SE Washington DC, the front seat passenger, Markese D. Blakney, 20 years old of SE Washington DC and the rear passenger, Duane A. Wright, 20 years old of SE Washington DC were placed under arrest. They were transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where they were charged with the theft of the vehicle.

During the pursuit, a Metropolitan Police cruiser was involved in a crash. The vehicle was southbound on Rt 4 in the area of Apple Way, Dunkirk, Md. The driver lost control of the car, overturned and struck a utility pole. Both Officers were flown to Prince George’s Hospital via Maryland State Police Helicopter. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Metropolitan Police will be pursuing charges against the suspect.
