The St. Mary's County Department of Recreation, Parks and Community Services is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with St. Mary's County Public Schools (SMCPS), the Summer of Safety, Arts and Reading (SOSAR) Camp Program will be offered to the public again this year, beginning Tuesday, July 5, 2005 and ending Friday, August 5, 2005. The program will operate on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church Social Hall in St. Inigoes and at Banneker Elementary School in Loveville.
The SOSAR Camp Program is offered at no cost to children in grades K-4 requiring assistance with reading and who meet the requirements for the free and reduced lunch program provided in SMCPS. Children are enrolled via a written referral from their school principal.
In addition to receiving help in reading, SOSAR participants will also enjoy arts, crafts, games and other recreational activities. Children will receive a free nutritional breakfast and lunch each day through the Department's participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program. The program will not discriminate in the course of the meal service and will not promote physical segregation or other discrimination against any child because of race, color, age, national origin, sex or disability.
