John Savich, Director of St. Mary's County Government's Department of Economic and Community Development, has been elected vice-president of the Maryland Economic Development Association. A Leonardtown resident, Savich has been director of the county department for four years and responsible for economic development, tourism, agriculture development, and housing.
He joins the statewide association's executive board with Marie Keegin, executive director of the Frederick County Office of Economic Development, president; Kendl P. Philbrick, secretary of the Maryland Department of the Environment, secretary; and Sean Looney, director of government affairs for Comcast, treasurer.
The Association, headquartered in Aberdeen, was established in 1961 as the Maryland Industrial Development Association to improve the state's business climate and the professionalism of people working in economic development. The organization changed its name within the last year. Members include 460 economic development professionals who work for government, business, chambers of commerce and other institutions.
