The Charles County Sheriffs Office is seeking the public's help in identifying a homicide victim found June 18, 1998 in Charles County, Maryland. The Sheriffs Office has recently released a new reconstruction of the victim that they hope will result in the identifiction of the person.
On 18-JUNE-1998 a local resident discovered a body on Irving Road, in Bel Alton, Maryland. The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and an autopsy was conducted. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. The deceased was in an advanced state of decomposition, but was found to be a black female, about 5-06, medium build, and 25-35 years of age. Fingerprints were obtained from the victim.
Detectives canvassed the area were the body was located, and have attempted to match the victim to persons reported as missing in the Washington, D.C. area, all with negative results. Detectives also combed the missing person's files in the NCIC database in an attempt to identify the victim, again without success. Detectives have worked with numerous police agencies throughout the country but have been unable to determine the victim's identity. The victim's fingerprints were compared to prints on file with the FBI, and other fingerprint databases, with negative results.
In 1999, a facial reconstruction was completed, and that information was distributed to the press, police agencies, and missing persons databases. To date, the victim continues to unidentified, and listed as Jane Doe. A second facial reconstruction was completed in 2005, and the results will be distributed in hopes someone will recognize the victim.
