Two Flee Police After Attempted Speeding Stop; Drugs Found

On June 10 at 1:04 a.m., Officer M. Thompson attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Dodge Caravan for speeding on Leonardtown Road near Billingsley Road in Waldorf but the driver did not stop. The driver eventually pulled onto the shoulder of Leonardtown Road, north of Bryantown, and a passenger fled on foot. Officers apprehended the passenger and identified him as Adron Rydell Wood, 21, of Port Tobacco. He was arrested and charged with Failure to Obey a Lawful Order, Resisting Arrest and Hindering.

The driver continued to flee in the vehicle but when he reached Ted Bowling Road, the driver exited the vehicle and ran into the woods. Shortly thereafter, the Charles County Sheriff's Office received a call from the owner of the Caravan who reported the vehicle stolen. While officers were investigating the report, the owner of the Caravan said he allowed two to people borrow the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle could be located in a trailer in the 5600 block of Ted Bowling Road.

Officers located the driver, Joseph Jerome Young Jr., 21, of Bryantown in the trailer and arrested him. He was charged with fleeing and eluding on foot and in a vehicle, Reckless Driving, Right Turn on Red without Stopping and Speeding. A search later revealed Wood was in possession of crack cocaine. He will be charged at a later date. Young and Wood are being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending appearances before the District Court Commissioner.
