Recently, Ralph J. Butler was recognized as "Officer of the Quarter" and reflects great credit upon himself and in keeping with the highest traditions of the Sheriff's Office. Correctional Officer First Class Ralph J. Butler is a well rounded officer with excellent communication skills. He is a senior member of the Corrections Division Emergency Response Team (ERT). Recently, a medical emergency within the facility occurred involving an inmate who had attempted suicide by cutting his wrist with a razor blade. ERT was immediately activated and CFC Butler without hesitation responded and assumed command of the situation. Utilizing his training and experience, CFC Butler took the appropriate life saving actions while continuing to maintain the safety and security of the surrounding area. The inmate was disarmed and then secured without further injury. CFC Butler is a dedicated member of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and greatly boosts the morale of the Corrections Division with his positive demeanor.
