Planning Commission Meeting To Include Public Hearing On Draft 2005 Land Preservation, Parks And Recreation Plan And Presentation On Myrtle Point Park Draft Concept Plan
The St. Mary's County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Draft 2005 St. Mary's County Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP) on Monday, June 13, 2005, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in Room 14 of the Governmental Center in Leonardtown.
The public is invited to participate by providing comments regarding the LPPRP as a proposed amendment to the County's Comprehensive Plan. The LPPRP is an important document for identifying recreation and open space needs both in the County and the Town of Leonardtown and, once adopted, will set policies and actions to address those needs for the next five to ten years. The LPPRP is updated every five years and offers the opportunity to reassess priorities based on population growth and changing economic, social and market conditions. New State guidelines place greater emphasis on a more integrated approach to open space, agricultural land preservation and natural resource preservation than in past years.
Following the public hearing on the LPPRP, a presentation will be given to the Planning Commission on the Myrtle Point Park Draft Concept Plan. The Concept Plan was developed by a park planning firm, in conjunction with County staff and the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board, based on information gathered from a public planning workshop held in February 2005. This presentation is not a public hearing, but public comment will be accepted after Planning Commission discussion.
