SMECO Board Candidates Nominated


The 2005 Board Nominating Committee for Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) met on May 14 and 19 and chose candidates for the five available seats up for election on SMECO's Board of Directors.

Those nominated are:

Calvert County:

John W. "Jack" Williams, Jr.

Prince George's County:

Daniel W. "Danny" Dyer

Charles County:

John H. Bloom, Jr.

St. Mary's County:

G. Purnell Frederick, Sr.
Joseph V. "Joe" Stone, Jr.
George "Mike" Thompson

In addition to nominations made by the Nominating Committee, any 15 or more members acting together may make other nominations by petition prior to July 1, 2005. SMECO customer-members will elect five directors to serve three-year terms and will vote for one Board seat for Calvert County, one seat for Charles County, one seat for Prince George's County, and two seats in St. Mary's County.

Members may vote in person at the 2005 Members' Annual Meeting on Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at SMECO's Hughesville Headquarters; qualifying customers may also vote by absentee ballot. Applications for absentee ballots will be available June 6 to August 15 at any SMECO office, or by calling 301-274-4480, or via the Co-op's Web site. Completed ballots must be returned by August 30.
