The Charles County Department of Planning and Growth Management will be holding a public information meeting on the draft Historic Preservation Ordinance and Tax Credit Package at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 13, 2005 at the Port Tobacco Courthouse.
The ordinance will establish a Historic Preservation Commission as well as their duties and responsibilities. Major responsibilities include recommending historic landmarks and districts to the Charles County Commissioners for local historic designation, administering a 10% property tax credit available for the rehabilitation of designated properties, and reviewing significant changes to the exterior of locally designated properties. The ordinance was a key implementation strategy of the July 2004 Charles County Historic Preservation Plan.
Copies of the draft ordinance are available in the Department of Planning and Growth Management, located in the Charles County Government Building, La Plata, Maryland. The draft is also available for review on the County's web site at http://www.charlescounty.org/pgm/planning/plans.
