Assault & Racial Epithets in Waldorf


ASSAULT: On May 22 at 7:45 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 2700 block of Grindall Court in Waldorf for the assault report. Investigation revealed the victim, an 18-year-old Waldorf man, was leaving his residence when his roommate, Ernest Francis Hurd, 40, of Waldorf, struck the victim with a crescent wrench. Hurd was charged with First Degree Assault and is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. The victim was transported to Civista Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officer M. Kennedy investigated.

RACIAL, RELIGIOUS OR ETHNIC INCIDENT: On May 21 at 9:02 a.m., Officer D. Byrd responded to Shoppers Food Warehouse at 1000 Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf for the destruction of property report. Investigation revealed suspect(s) wrote racial epithets on a brick pillar in front of the store.
