On May 22 at 2:01 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a 911 call for a large fight in the parking lot of the Elks Lodge at 12445 Rock Point Road in Newburg. While officers were en route the Sheriff's office received a second 911 call for shots being fired at the location.
As officers arrived, they observed a large disorderly crowd and heard additional gunshots. Officers located Arthur Franklin White Jr., 32, of Aquasco, who matched the description provided of the suspects involved in the shooting. An officer searched White and located a knife in White's pocket, which injured the officer.
White was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon. Further investigation revealed White was wanted in Charles County for Third Degree Burglary, two counts of Second Degree Assault, Fourth Degree Sex Offense, Failure to Appear for Driving While Suspended and Failure to Appear for First Degree Burglary.
During their investigation, officers located a man in possession of a 9mm magazine who said the man with the gun had fled the scene. The man with the magazine was not identified as the individual who fired shots and he was not arrested. Officers' arrested a 17-year-old Charlotte Hall boy and charged him with Disorderly Conduct.
Eight Sheriff's officers, including two K9 units, two Maryland State Police troopers and a Maryland Transportation Authority officer responded. Officers Buchanan and J. Cooney investigated.
