RACIAL, RELIGIOUS OR ETHNIC INCIDENT: Sometime between 10:30 p.m. on May 7 and 11 a.m. on May 8, suspect(s) spray painted a racial slur on a Holly Station Townhomes sign at the community pool in the 2300 block of Hope Circle in Waldorf and fled the scene. THEFT: Sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on May 5, suspect(s) entered Hair Cuttery at 11110 Mall Circle in Waldorf, stole a 22-year-old Waldorf woman's purse and fled the scene. Officers are seeking information about two heavy-set black females who may have been involved in the incident. They fled the business in a light-colored passenger car. DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE: On May 5 at 3:38 p.m., Officer J. Walter responded to a citizen's report of an intoxicated vehicle traveling north on Leonardtown Road. Officer Walter observed the vehicle merge onto northbound Crain Highway without using a turn signal and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle did not stop until he struck a curb in the 2900 block of Crain Highway. He then pulled into a parking lot. Investigation revealed the driver, Nikita Z Murray, 42, of Washington D.C., was intoxicated. Murray was charged with Driving While Impaired, Driving Under the Influence, Consuming an Alcoholic Beverage While Driving a Motor Vehicle and Driver Turning Without Giving Signal. He is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
THEFT: On May 5 at 1:30 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to Food Lion at 100 Drury Drive in La Plata for theft report. Investigation revealed Melissa Marie Tippett, 32, of La Plata concealed merchandise and attempted to leave the business without paying for it. Tippett was issued a criminal citation for Theft Less Than $500 and released pending court proceedings. Officer D. Chandler investigated.
MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH: On May 5 at 12:45 a.m., a Nissan Maxima was traveling south on Crain Highway when the vehicle crashed near Oriole Lane in La Plata. Investigation revealed the driver, David Scott Barber, 38, of La Plata, was intoxicated. He was issued criminal citations for Driving While Impaired and Driving Under the Influence and released to a sober driver. Officer T. Hemsley investigated.
