Waldorf Woman Holds Moving Men at Gunpoint


ASSAULT: On April 6 at 12:13 p.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 12400 block of Turtle Dove Place in Waldorf for the report of a civil dispute. Investigation revealed Betty Jean Cromwell, 72, of Waldorf and two employees of Poor Man's Lawn and Moving became involved in an argument regarding payment for moving services. When the employees attempted to terminate their contract with Cromwell, Cromwell retrieved a handgun and held the employees at gunpoint. Officers arrived and recovered the handgun. Cromwell was arrested and charged with two counts of First Degree Assault, two counts of Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Using a Handgun During the Commission of a Felony and Crime of Violence. She is being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. PFC J. Burroughs investigated.
