St. Mary's: Stolen Tags, Stabbing, DUI Driver Flees


March 14, 2005 at approximately 0135 hours Dfc. Michael Peacher checked the registration of a vehicle observed on Three Notch Rd., in California, MD. The vehicle a red 1987 Toyota was displaying Maryland tag HMV-806. The registration check revealed the tags had been reported stolen just after noon the same day. The tags were the property of George Hopkins of Lexington Park, MD. This investigation was initiated by Dfc. Joseph Somerville. The vehicle eluded Dfc. Peacher for a short while but was relocated by Dep. Brian Connelly and Dfc. Christopher Morley near the intersection of Three Notch Rd and St. Andrews Church Rd. The vehicle was stopped and the driver Richard Wayne Paul, age 23 of Mechanicsville, MD was arrested for possession of the stolen tags. Richard Paul was also charged on a Bench Warrant for failing to appear in court on another theft charge. Dfc. Morley transported Richard Paul to the detention center where he is held pending arraignment before a District Court Commissioner.

March 14, 2005 at 0214 hours a burglar alarm sounded at Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell in Leonardtown, MD. On arrival Dfc. Kevin Roberts discovered the front door unsecured with evidence of forced entry. The rear door was also found unsecured. Damage to the door is estimated at $200.00. Investigation continues.

March 14, 2005 at approximately 0213 hours Dfc. Donald Poole attempted to stop a 1993 Jeep for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver refused to yield Dfc. Poole's emergency vehicle siren and lights and continued South from Laurel Grove Rd. on Three Notch Rd. The vehicle continued to Oakville Rd and then Queen Tree Rd. The vehicle accelerated and then turned into a private drive at the road end. The suspect fled on foot. The suspect has not yet been located. This investigation is continuing.

March 14, 2005 at 0328 hours, Dfc. Elizabeth Trossbach responded to St. Mary's Hospital to investigate a stabbing. The victim, Floyd Lucky Kittle Jr. age 41, of Hollywood, MD advised his girlfriend stabbed him. Dfc. Elizabeth Trossbach learned that the victim had a punctured lung. Dfc. Trossbach responded to the location of the stabbing, a residence on Jones Rd., Hollywood, MD. She found the victim's girlfriend, Tacie Christine Chatterton, age 38, at the residence. The suspect and victim had argued in the residence. The victim had thrown and broken a picture. When Tacie Chatterton attempted to clean up the glass she alleges the victim had attempted to take the broom from her. She then stabbed the victim, twice, in the chest with a metal yard stake. Tacie Christine Chatterton was arrested for Assault and held at the St. Mary's County Detention Center pending arraignment before a District Court Commissioner. The victim Floyd Lucky Kittle Jr. was found to have a warrant in North Carolina for auto theft. He was served the warrant and will be awaiting determination on extradition back to Pitt County, North Carolina.
