Christmas Eve Crimes Keep Sheriff's Department Busy


On 122404 at approximately 1959 DFC Emory Johnson stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Rt. 5 near Persimmon Creek Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland. The driver initially gave a false name to DFC Johnson and Deputy Jay Kirkner who responded as back up officer. DFC Johnson's investigation revealed that the driver's actual name was Robert Alan Johnson, 42 yoa of Park Hall, Md. A drivers license check revealed that he was suspended and that he was also wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Maryland State Police. Robert Johnson was placed under arrest, a search incident to that arrest revealed a small blue plastic tub under the drivers seat, the tub contained 11 baggies of marijuana. Robert Johnson had $407.00 in cash on him which was seized. Robert Johnson was charged with Possession of CDS and Possession of CDS with Intent to Distribute, Driving While Suspended and served the warrant from the Maryland State Police.

On 122404 at approximately 1556 hours DFC Eric Walker responded to Dorsey Street for a reported assault. DFC Walker's investigation revealed that Larry Darnell Harrod, 50 yoa of Leonardtown, had displayed a knife towards the victim Florence Harrod and threatened to cut her with the knife. He was subsequently arrested and charged with Second Degree Assault.

On 122404 DFC Stephen E. Myers responded to The Outback Steakhouse for a reported counterfeit bill. DFC Myer's investigation revealed that between 1430-1640 hours an unknown person purchased a gift certificate and paid for the certificate with a $100 dollar bill. Later that evening the cashier discovered that the bill was a counterfeit bill. The bill did not have the watermarks or validation strip. Investigation to continue.

On 122404 DFC Eric Walker responded to a residence on Budds Creek Road in Clements for a reported burglary. The victim advised that sometime between 122104-122204 unknown persons entered his shed and stole a 5hp Power Washer and a 3 ½ hp Air compressor. Both items were valued at $775.00

On 122404 Deputy Jay Kirkner responded to a residence on Hurry Road, in Chaptico for a reported burglary. The victim advised that sometime between 122204-122404 unknown persons broke into the victims shed and stole a red Honda Generator, a gray Southern States 20 hp riding lawn tractor. The items were valued at approximately $3500.00.

On 122404 DFC Patrick Handy responded to Wal-Mart for a reported shoplifter. Upon arrival contact was made with the Loss Prevention Officer who advised that he observed the suspect place numerous pieces of jewelry in her pocket and leave the store. She was stopped and the jewelry recovered. DFC Handy charged Julie Sue Ann Young, 22 yoa of Lexington Park on a Criminal Citation with Theft under $100.00

On 122404 at approximately 2100 hours Deputy Jay Kirkner responded to a reported accident at Rt. 235 and Rt. 5 in Mechanicsville, Md. Upon arriving he discovered that the accident was a minor property damage only. While checking the drivers information he discovered that Shawn Lloyd Shaw, 25 yoa from Alexandria, Virginia was wanted out of Missouri on Fraud charges. Shaw was arrested and charged on a Fugitive Warrant with Fraud from Missouri. Shaw was incarcerated pending Extradition through Missouri.
