Kevin Hall of Bowie and Elizabeth Callahan of Upper Marlboro are Participating in the 2004 Summer Games in Athens
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny Hoyer announced today that two athletes who reside in the 5th Congressional District are competing in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Kevin Hall of Bowie is a competitor in the Sailing Competition and Elizabeth Callahan of Upper Marlboro is a competitor in the Sport and Air Pistol Shooting Competition.
"I am very proud that Elizabeth and Kevin, both from the 5th Congressional District, are representing the United States at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens," said Congressman Hoyer. "We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated athletes in the 5th Congressional District of Maryland competing with the best athletes from around the world. I wish both Elizabeth and Kevin success in Athens and I look forward to cheering on our hometown talent over the next several weeks," added Hoyer.
According to USA Shooting, Elizabeth Callahan was named the 1993 Female Pistol Shooter of the Year. She has also been a five-time Women's Police Revolver Champion and a four-time Women's Police Service Revolver Champion. Elizabeth also participated in the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.
The United States Sailing Association notes that Kevin Hall captured his first world title at the 1986 IYRU World Youth Singlehanded Sailing Championships, and despite being diagnosed with cancer in 1990, Kevin remains one of the sports fiercest competitors. He is a three-time All-American and four-time U.S. Team Race Champion.
The Olympics opened on Friday, August 13, 2004 in Athens, Greece and the closing ceremonies will be held on Sunday, August 29.
