Suspects Apprehended in Mailbox Massacre


On 08-10-04, at approximately 0245 hours, DFC Somar Clark was dispatched to the Chestnut Hills Subdivision in the area of Deerwood Park Drive, Leonardtown, Maryland for a possible property destruction in progress to mailboxes. DFC Clark located a vehicle exiting the neighborhood at a high rate of speed. DFC Clark stopped the vehicle and identified the adult occupants as Nathaniel James Francis Small and Daniel James Moore. DFC Clark observed in plain view numerous mailbox doors in the back seat of the vehicle. At this time another vehicle arrived on the scene driven by a resident who witnessed the suspects, DFC Clark had stopped, destroying the mailboxes. Additional Sheriff's Office units arrived on the scene and canvassed the area discovering numerous mailboxes destroyed and many missing their doors.

The property discovered in the suspects' vehicle was identified as being from the destroyed mailboxes. Both suspects were placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary's County Detention Center where they were charged with nine (9) counts of Malicious Destruction of Property.
