Citizens may now purchase animal tags at the County Treasurer’s Office, located at the Governmental Center Annex, 23150 Leonard Hall Drive, Leonardtown, MD 20650. To purchase a tag, proof of a valid rabies shot must be provided for each pet. All dogs in the County must be tagged. While it is not required to purchase a tag for a cat, one can be purchased for cats also by providing a valid rabies certificate. The cost is $7.50 per animal. The cost is reduced to $2.00 if the animal is spayed or neutered. The cost for a kennel license is $25.00. Beginning August 1, 2003, a $2.00 penalty will be added to the fees.
To purchase tags by mail, please send a copy of the rabies certificate, the required fee and a self-addressed and stamped envelope to the St. Mary’s County Treasurer, P.O. Box 642, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
