The Board of County Commissioners and the Department of Economic and Community Development announce that the Housing Needs Assessment is available on the Countys website at http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/decd/publications.asp
The purpose of the study was to better determine the current status of housing inventory in the County and to assess which categories of housing are most needed in different regions. Information from this study will be used by County citizens, staff, organizations and developers to plan housing solutions.
This study confirms that St. Marys County does have a shortage of housing for our residents, said Thomas F. McKay, President, Board of County Commissioners. We are particularly concerned about the lack of affordable homes and apartment units and will be working collaboratively with the Housing Authority and other state and federal agencies to move appropriate housing developments forward.
The preliminary results were briefed by the author of the report, Danter Consultants, at the May 1, 2003 Affordable Housing Summit.
