Charles County Community Services Programs Continue After Fire


LA PLATA, MD - The Charles County Commissioners announce that the Department of Community Services has resumed a number of its services following a fire which destroyed its Port Tobacco, Maryland headquarters on May 12, 2003.

Individuals who have had applied for the Housing Choice Voucher Program prior to the fire are currently being evaluated for the Program by the Housing and Community Development Division. In the meantime, the Program waiting list has been closed until further notice.

Registrations for Recreation Division programs are being accepted by mail to: 8190 Port Tobacco Road, Port Tobacco, MD 20677, or online at www.charlescounty.org/recreation.

Citizens who need to contact a Division of the Department of Community Services regarding any of their programs and services should call the following numbers: Child Care: 301-885-0155; Recreation: 301-705-6557; Aging and Community Centers: 301-934-5423; Transportation: 301-609-7917; Housing and Community Development and Administration: 301-645-0550. Citizens may also send e-mail by going to the Community Services' section of the County's web site, www.charlescounty.org.

The Department plans to have its offices relocated to another site next week. The location will be announced as soon as possible.
