I'm now fully convinced
that I have heard it all. Nope, kids, as jaded and
cynical as I was in the past, now I'm completely
convinced that we are a country full of lunatics.
Prove it, you say? Well, dear, only in America can
a group of men...who only want to bow down to the Lord,
Our God, to praise his name and seek salvation...only in
America can that be considered a bad thing. The Promise Keepers are in the news a good bit these days. Their rally in Washington was attended by more men than the "Million" Man March. In the last few weeks, they have dominated TV, radio, and every magazine published in the U.S. In case you've been hibernating, the Promise Keepers are a group of men who have made the decision to turn their lives over to Christianity. They are committed to the Seven Promises that are defined in their guidebook, basically that they will do the Lord's work , honor Jesus, and spread the good news with their brothers. This appears to really annoy the NOW (National Organization of Wackos) ladies. They seem to feel that men behaving spiritually is a threat to their movement. NOW president Patricia Ireland has been quoted by several news sources, saying that the Promise Keepers are trying to throw women back into their roles of servitude. But the wives of Promise Keepers tell a different story. They say that their husbands are more attentive and loving than they ever were before. So it stands to reason that the NOW babes, who have no husbands and think all men are raping pigs, don't like this new attitude. The more women with happy relationships, the less support for NOW...makes sense to me. One of the Promises that these men are committed to is a passage in the Book of Matthew, when Jesus was commissioning the disciples, "And Jesus came and said to them "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you." The NOW chicks seem to think this proves that the Promise Keepers are trying to be the bosses! "Well!", they huff, "Who is to have authority and who is to obey? We're not obeying them! We want to be the authority!" In case there are any feminists reading this column, let me make clear what this passage means: The authority is Our Lord Jesus Christ, and those who must obey are the rest of us. You can tell that Patricia Ireland doesn't read the Bible. Personally, I feel that this group is God's answer to the multitudes of prayers that women have sent up throughout the years. To help the men in their lives, the fathers of their children, to become more loving and giving, to help them to find Christ and give their will over to Him, to find comfort in prayer, and to know the serenity of faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ. Thanks, God...some of us are truly appreciative and are counting our blessings. The rest are just going to have to be mad. |
