The National Capital Trolley Museum was founded in 1959 after the abandonment of streetcar service in the District of Columbia had become a certainty. The collections consist of 17 streetcars from Washington D.C. and other cities. Many of these are operated on a one-mile demonstration railway. The museum houses an extensive collection of WM artifacts and memorabilia, a voluminous photo archive, archival material directly from the Western Maryland, and an extensive railroader's library featuring historical and technical publications about the WM and the other roads of the region. Major exhibits include the Caller's Boards from Hagerstown and Ridgely, and the CTC panel for the Lurgan Subdivision. Our N-Scale model railroad is located in our museum, and our traveling modular railroad display can be found on tour in the area.
