 "In February of 1983 I had a house fire. I lost everything I owned. The local Salvation Army helped me out. As a way of paying them back, I purchased 11 turkeys and fixings and took them to needy families in St. Mary’s County. Since then, the program has grown exponentially. Last year we gave out 2,500 turkey baskets to local families. A basket includes one whole turkey, cans of corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, and a bag of potatoes."
