Kick off the Season’s Eatings workshop series with a hands-on exploration of dairying in the 17th century at Historic St. Mary’s City. This spring workshop focuses on the role of cows in the colony, heritage breeds such as Red Devon cattle, and the essential work of women in colonial foodways. Participants will churn butter, make soft cheese using period-inspired methods, learn about hard cheese production, and sample their creations while discussing the seasonal rhythms of plantation life.
Godiah Spray Tobacco Plantation.
Ages 14 and up.
$30 per person / $25 members. Includes museum admission.
$5 discount for repeat participants registering for the second or third workshops.
This program involves walking on uneven, unpaved terrain and hands-on work with food materials. Common allergens, including dairy and gluten, will be present. Program held rain or shine.
