The presentation by John Besley highlights the era in which over 70 Tory captains were executed for leading Americans in the British army. Philip Barton Key was one such Tory captain during the Revolutionary War. After the war, he returned to the US following law school. He served six terms in the Maryland House of Delegates and three terms in the US Congress. He lived in Leonardtown for three years after the war. His nephew was the famous Francis Scott Key.
