This year's St. Mary's County Recreation & Parks Summerstock Production is Disney's TARZAN, based on the 1999 animated film. With music and lyrics by Phil Collins, and a book/script/libretto by David Henry Hwang, TARZAN is sure to delight audiences of all ages.
TARZAN is one of the most enduring pop culture characters in the world. Edgar Rice Burroughs created TARZAN and wrote his first book about him, "TARZAN OF THE APES," in 1912. Since then he's appeared on radio show, movie serials, films, television shows, the latter two in live action and animated varieties. Burroughs wrote 24 TARZAN novels, and the series has continued in other books, newspaper comics, comic books, graphic novels, and more.
Disney's animated film was released in 1999 with songs by Phil Collins. In 2006, Disney brought TARZAN to Broadway in a new musical, adapted from the movie, with even more songs by Phil Collins!
